New PMU Builds Permanent Makeup Entrepreneurs from the Ground Up
The journey to entrepreneurial success is one of the challenges and triumphs. For many people, beginning their own business is not so much a matter of experience and resources as it is a matter of willpower. Maru and Anna of New PMU know this all too well. Both women began their journeys in some of the hardest but most rewarding careers to self-start in, Anna in medicine and beauty and Maru in fashion and beauty. Their journey to success involved decades of hard work and experience and put them through quite a few challenges that they eventually had to overcome.
Anna began her journey as a doctor and teacher at first many years ago in Ukraine, but quickly fell in love with the beauty industry and started helping people by creating real art as a permanent makeup artist. She began honing her craft, practicing endlessly and working to develop her studio full of loyal clients and expert training and continuing education resources. Anna worked hard to study and perfect the art of permanent makeup, becoming a widely renowned teacher and permanent makeup professional who began hosting her masterclasses and teaching other women how to practice and perfect permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing. Eventually, Anna wrote and published workbooks and guidebooks on permanent makeup, becoming an international expert on permanent makeup. When her family moved to the United States from Ukraine, Anna began transitioning her business to the United States and working to establish her reputation in San Diego as a master permanent makeup technician. And she did it terrifically.
Maru started as a brand manager for many premiere fashion organizations in her native country of Ukraine. She worked her way up the management ladder, eventually landing as a brand manager for luxury women magazine — Harper’s Bazaar where she cooperated with brands like Yves St. Laurent, Dior, Kenzo, LVMH, and more. Maru developed over fifteen years of industry experience in marketing and had a professional reputation as one of the best brand managing partners and marketers in the industry. When she moved to the United States, she had an impressive resume and years of practical, hands-on experience, but found it hard to find her footing in the United States fashion world. Many interviewers told her she was overqualified, but Maru didn’t give up. She continued searching for work that inspired and motivated her, eventually finding a seasonal position with Art Hearts Fashion, and helping to organize and execute big fashion events like Los Angeles Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, and Miami Swim Week. However, Maru knew she wanted something more, a chance to help educate others within the beauty industry and help share her knowledge with the world.
When Anna and Maru met, they both recognized the potential in each other. They were both hard-working career women who were passionate about beauty, services, and self-empowerment through finance. They both had the entrepreneurial spirit, and they both had years of professional expertise that they knew could make a difference in other people’s lives. Together, they decided to combine their skills and experience to create an innovative new academy that taught artists just like them how to combine personal and professional skills to create a new career and business for themselves. Their academy would provide students with the practical tools to begin a career in permanent makeup and the professional expertise to design and market their business and brand. They called it New PMU
Creating your own business in the beauty industry requires a tremendous investment in terms of both time and money. There’s licensure fees, educational trainings, supply bills, and the cost of renting or setting up your own business. There’s also the not-so-small matter of being able to manage and promote your own business in addition to handling the service production component of it. Customer service skills, brand promotion, and service management are not easy skills to master, and especially if you don’t have a lot of professional experience in those fields. New PMU works to overcome all of those barriers.
With New PMU, students learn every strategy and practice every tool they’ll need to help kickstart their own careers in permanent makeup. Anna teaches expert permanent makeup skills, provides them with a tool kit to practice on their own and service their own clients, and gives them access to experienced industry professionals who can provide their own advice and strategies for success in the world of cosmetic tattooing. Maru guides them through a master class in marketing and brand development, designing a strategy to maximize their advertising and business campaigns and help students establish a thriving brand and clientele.
Together, the founders of New PMU believe that with hard work and persistence, you can overcome any obstacle. No dream is not worth pursuing. Maru and Anna worked hard and never gave up, and as a result, their New PMU Academy has successfully graduated over thirty students, with more signed up to begin completing their program. With persistence and determination, New PMU is helping beauty entrepreneurs build a career from the ground up.
